PERSAD is holding an Open Roads Job Fair for LGBT young adults.
The Open Roads Job Fair is an event for LGBT young adults who experience barriers at traditional job fairs. Many queer young adults are seeking paid work but experience barriers due to homophobia, transphobia, racial discrimination, ableism, and structural oppression that leads to things like lack of education, lack of job experience, and criminalization.
For this reason, PERSAD Center is hosting a job fair with organizations who are:
- ready to hire for entry-level positions
- ready to train
- willing to be transparent about their recruitment requirements
- & can open roads to new opportunities for enrichment.
Organizations participating include 1Hood, Big Burrito Restaurant Group, Delta T Group, New Voices Pittsburgh, One PA, and SEIU.
In order to foster more engagement and connection than a standard job fair, we will be serving a hot catered lunch, having a small conversation starter, and allowing each recruiter to address the group about the work they do and the positions they have available. There will be time to mingle and talk one-on-one after this.
Corporate business attire is not required, as this is a queer-positive space. It's important to put your best face forward, so be sure to wear something clean and comfortable that makes you feel good about yourself. We will be having a "Dandiest Dresser" contest, and the top two winners will get a $25 Visa gift card!
Bring with you a few copies of your resume if you have one, your appetites, and your smiles! :) If you do not have access to a printer, please contact Sueño at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange.
