PERSAD brings expertise to workshops and therapeutic groups
In the fight against HIV/AIDS, the nurturing power of shared experiences cannot be underestimated. In that spirit, the Southwestern Pennsylvania Healing Weekend marks its upcoming 22nd year as a retreat for HIV positive people and those that love them.
The Healing Weekend offers a healthy escape from everyday life in a soul-nourishing environment. Participants find a peaceful atmosphere to share and learn from each other in support of leading healthy lives. The Healing Weekend is for anyone living with HIV, from the newly diagnosed to long-term survivors.
Founded in the 1980s by PERSAD CENTER, the Healing Weekend is now coordinated by the Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, bringing together a team of passionate volunteers dedicated to creating a very special experience for participants. Members of PERSAD’S clinical staff lead workshops and groups that focus on healing mind, body and spirit. “People living with HIV benefit from a supportive atmosphere where they can freely discuss the challenges they face. Various workshops and group discussions will focus on stress management, healthy relationships, sexuality and more”, says PERSAD Program Director Sandy Soloski. Soloski and PERSAD therapists Don Finch and Diane McHirella Elliot will be conducting small group discussions throughout the weekend, while other members of the PERSAD team will conduct workshops including:
- Mindfulness: Living a More Peaceful and Satisfying Life – Don Finch
- Qigong: For Healing and Health – fAe gibson
- Law of Attraction – Diane McHirella Elliot
- Men’s Discussion Group – Bob Moore
- Healthy Relationships – Allen Brown
- Music Therapy – Nancy Hammond
- Drumming: Healing Rhythms – Dana Grande (formerly of PERSAD)
