Meet PERSAD'S New Special Events Coordinator

PERSAD CENTER seeks volunteers for fun community events

PERSAD CENTER is pleased to welcome Yasmeen (Yas) Hatcher to the staff as our new special events coordinator. Yas comes to PERSAD after many years working for the Pittsburgh Zoo, where she served recently as development coordinator for special events and fundraising.

A Pittsburgh native, Yas earned a BA in Mass Communication from the University of Pittsburgh and a Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication from Point Park.

When Yas joined the staff in September she found herself immediately involved in coordinating our annual “Donut Dash” 5K, and was soon thereafter helping to plan our annual Fall Art Sale. “I’m really happy to be a part of the PERSAD team. It’s a great organization that does great work in the community. I’ve already met so many enthusiastic friends and supporters of the agency and I’m looking forward to working with all of the volunteers who help make PERSAD events happen”, says Yas.

Special events play a very important role to the fundraising goals of PERSAD CENTER, but they also provide vital opportunities for social engagement and for people to meet each other and have fun. “The enthusiasm and generosity of our volunteers fuels the success of all of our events. Whether it’s the Art for Change auction, the upcoming Riverside Design Holiday Sale, or our Spice Dinner Series, we’re always looking for volunteers to make our events successful. People can now contact Yas and she will line them up with ways they can help”, says Development Director Bob McGrogan.

The next PERSAD event is just around the corner. The 13th annual Riverside Design Holiday Sale takes place on December 6 & 7 in Lawrenceville. “We’re looking for volunteers to help with gift packaging and wrapping. A few hours of help makes all the difference”, says Yas.

Planning is already underway for Art for Change in the Spring of 2015, and PERSAD is seeking volunteers to assist in many different ways. “People help us with registration, ticket sales, gallery set up and tear down, and lots of pre-event planning. There’s something for everyone”, says Yas. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, contact Yasmeen Hatcher at: 412-441-9786, ext. 226 or write to
