Free HIV Testing Hours Expanded to Thursdays

ALSO: PERSAD offers new support group for people living with HIV

PERSAD CENTER is pleased to announce we are expanding our free HIV testing hours to include each Thursday from Noon - 7:30 p.m. beginning on Thursday, September 4, 2014. PERSAD will continue to offer free testing each Tuesday from Noon - 5:00 p.m.

Free HIV testing at PERSAD does not involve the use of needles. The OraQuick rapid test is a gentle oral swab, and allows individuals to visit our Pittsburgh office at 5150 Penn Avenue, without an appointment, and receive their results in 1/2 hour. While getting an HIV test and learning your results can be stressful, pre- and post-test counseling helps clients face the future regardless of results. PERSAD is here to help.

New HIV Support Group Begins

PERSAD is also pleased to announce the creation of the POSITIVE CHOICES GROUP for people living with HIV. The support group provides a forum to discuss a wide range of topics in a non-judgmental atmosphere, including:

  • Navigating the disclosure process with family and friends
  • Disclosing your status with sexual partners
  • Self care and stress management
  • Reducing risk of re-infection

The POSITVE CHOICES GROUP meets each Monday for 5 weeks beginning August 25, 2014 from Noon - 2:00 p.m. Lunch will be served and help with transportation is available for DOH certified individauls. For information about the group contact Prevention Specialist J. Allen Brown at 412-294-2348 or
