Hundreds of voters cast ballots at Pride Fest
A little rain didn't dampen the spirits of the thousands of people who attended Pittsburgh's Pride Fest on Sunday, June 16. PERSAD CENTER board members, staff, and friends joined in the festivities and marched in the official Pride parade.
Pride Fest was also the culmination of PERSAD's "My Pride Story" Contest, honoring allies who support the LGBTQ community. The contest, launched in April, invited individuals to tell the story of a supportive ally. The story finalists were on display at PERSAD's Pride Fest booth and we collected hundreds of votes to select the favorite inspirational story.
We are pleased to announce that Matt Arch's story, about his mother and ally Lisa Duncan, was selected by the public as the winner. Lisa will receive a $500 prize from PERSAD for her inspiring support as an LGBTQ ally, and Matt will receive $100 for his contest entry. When she was notified about winning the best ally prize Lisa said "I am so blessed to have the most amazing son and I love him to death. How honored I felt to be Matthew's best ally. It doesn't get any better than that." It should also be noted that all 6 story finalists received tremendous support from voters who visited the PERSAD booth. Congratulations to all of the finalists and the winners!
PERSAD would like to thank all of the voters who join us in recognizing the important role allies play in advancing the rights and well-being of everyone in the LGBTQ community.
