25th year of Art for AIDS a resounding success!
PERSAD CENTER marked an important milestone with our annual art auction and benefit on May 13, 2013 at the August Wilson Center. Hundreds of friends and supporters gathered for “Art for Change: The 25th Year of Art for AIDS.” Over those 25 years the name of the event has changed from time to time, but the goal has always been the same: support the invaluable services of PERSAD. By the end of the evening nearly $270,000 was raised for our free care fund.
The evening featured auction galleries filled with 220 pieces of art — paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, furniture — generously donated by a host of artists and galleries. The live auction, led by Tripp Kline from Three Rivers Auction Company, generated an enthusiastic response for the art and the cause. The party atmosphere was made complete with sumptuous food, drinks and desserts from 20 area vendors.
The addition of electronic bidding devices gave patrons the freedom to roam the Silent Auction galleries and monitor their bids and favorite art selections. With a desire to make improvements to the event each year, PERSAD Development Director Bob McGrogan is already looking forward to a streamlined checkout process that will be introduced next year. “We’re grateful to all of our patrons, and we know we can smooth the process of distributing art at the end of the night. We’ll make it easier and faster for everyone” said McGrogan.
PERSAD extends a heartfelt thanks to all of the Art For Change sponsors and underwriters, with an extra special thanks to Title Sponsor UPMC and Signature Sponsor PNC for their leadership. Thanks to everyone who made AFC 2013 a huge success!
